Becoming a life-long follower of Jesus Christ is a journey. Where do I go next?
1. DECIDE TO FOLLOW CHRIST By now you may have discovered that all roads do not lead to God, and life is not as simple as you once thought. For those who are at this crossroad, the Bible offers a new direction, one filled with purpose, fulfillment, and acceptance. The steps are simple:
1. Recognize that you're a sinner.
First, you must admit your spiritual need: "There is none righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:10). We can't make excuses or blame others and our circumstances for our actions. "For all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God" (Romans 3:23).
2. Recognize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.
"For Christ also suffered once for all sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God...(1Peter 3:18). Jesus paid the price for your sin. The Apostle Paul said, "...the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2:20).
2. ATTEND CHURCH Fellowsville Assembly of God is a safe place to bring your doubts, questions, and curiosity - regardless of your background and belief. 3. READ YOUR BIBLE & PRAY What is the Bible?
The Bible is a book that's 100% inspired by God. "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right." (2 Timothy 3:16 NLT)
If you don't have a bible, we'd be glad to provide you with one. Come see our pastor after service or contact the church office at 304.892.4272 You can download a mobile Bible app or read one online here.
Why Do We Read The Bible? Know God better. He reveals Himself to us through His word and His teachings. "But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” (Matthew 4:4 NLT)
Get guidance in our daily life. "Your word is a lamp to guide my feetand a light for my path.." (Psalm 119:105 NLT)
The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life.I will advise you and watch over you. (Psalm 32:8 NLT)
Grow in our spiritual walk with God.
this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so
you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you
prosper and succeed in all you do." (Joshua 1:8 NLT)
Oh, the joys of those who do notfollow the advice of the wicked,or stand around with sinners,or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do." (Psalm 1:1-3 NLT)
Prayer We believe in the impact of prayer. Our Pastor is continuously praying for our church. If you need prayer, please let us know. And if you’ve seen God answer a specific prayer, we’d love to know that too.
"And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him."- 1 John 5:14 NLT
4. BEING BAPTIZED
Why get baptized?
1. Because you want to follow Christ's example.
"At that time Jesus come from Nazareth and was baptized by John in the river." (Mark 1:9 NIV )
2. Because Christ commanded it.
"Jesus said "Go then, to all people everywhere and make them my disciples, baptize them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and then teach them to obey everything I have commaned you." (Matthew 28:19-20 NIV)
3. Because it shows you are a believer.
"...many of the Corinthians who heard him believed and were baptized." (Acts 18:8 NIV)
4. Because obeying Christ's command shows you know Him.
"We know that we have come to know Him, if we obey His commands." (1 John 2:3 NIV)
The meaning of baptism
1. It is a symbol of Christ's burial and resurrection
"Christ died for our sins, He was buried, and He rose again." (1 Corinthians 15:3,4 NIV)
2. It is a symbol of your new life as a Christian.
When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. The old life has passed away and a new life has begun!" (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV)
Baptism does not make you a believer, it shows that you already are one! Baptism does not "save" you, only your faith in Christ does that. Baptism is like a wedding ring-It's the outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart.
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith...it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8,9 NIV)
How are we to get baptized? 1. Like Jesus was baptized-by being immersed in water.
"As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water." (Matthew 3:16 NIV)
2. Every baptism in the Bible was immersion under water.
"...then both Philip eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water..." (Acts 8:38,39 NIV)
3. The word "Baptize" or baptizo (Gk) literally means to "to dip under water"
4. It is the best way to picture a burial and resurrection.
Who should be baptized? Every person who has made the decision to believe in Christ.
"Those who believed and accepted His message were baptized." (Acts 2:41 NIV)
"But when they believed Philip as he preached the Good News...and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women." (Acts 8:12 NIV)
When are we to be baptized? The one requirement for baptism is belief in Christ! We do not baptize children until they are old enough to understand and believe.
As soon as you have believed! You shouldn't delay!
"Those who believed...were baptized that day!." (Acts 2:41 NIV)
"Then Philip began with the Scripture and told him the Good News about Jesus. As they traveled along the road, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, "look here is water! Why shouldn't I be baptized right now?" Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." The official answered, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him." (Acts 8:36-39 NIV)
There is no reason to delay. As soon as a person decided to believe in Christ, he can be and should be baptized.
What about being baptized twice? Our church recommends that you be baptized again if you have not been baptized by immersion since you became a believer. It doesn't devalue a prior experience but simply reflects your desire to be baptized in the same way Jesus was baptized. Every Fellowsville Assembly of God member who has been baptized, has been done by immersion as Jesus demonstrated and commanded us to follow.
Can our family be baptized together? Yes! If each family member understands fully the meaning of baptism, and each one has personally placed his/her trust in Christ for salvation, we encourage families to be baptized at the same time. It is a wonderful expression of commitment.
Change Lives By bringing your tithe or offering, you are making a personal investment towards changing lives. Your contribution will sow seeds of love and help spread the life-changing message of Jesus Christ, both locally and globally.
Give and it will be given to you. (Luke 6:38 NIV)
A tithe means 10%. In the Bible, God instructs us to tithe, or give 10% of our gross income, to the church. What's unique about tithing, is that does more for us than it does for God. Also, it's the only way in which God says we can test him.
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. (Malachi 3:10 NIV)
At the end of the day, God wants us to be in control of our money - not the other way around. God knows how easily money can control us, because at it's roots, tithing is about our heart, not our money.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:@1 NIV)
Simply put, God wants our first and our best. When you give your first and best to God, the rest is blessed.
Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. (Proverbs 3:9, 10 NIV)
An offering is any gift or contribution above and beyond your tithe. No matter the amount, God will use it to advance His Kingdom. From missions to benevolence to debt reduction, you can give an offering that will sow into the Kingdom.
Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. (2 Corinthians 6:9 NIV)
